SUN TEMPLE The word Konarka - Kona means corner and arka means Sun god. Sun god is also known by following names - Arka, Bhanu, Udaya, Surya, Aditya, Bhaskara, Heramba, Sapthasapthi, Mithra are all names of sun. Konark temple is located in the village of Konarka, adjacent to the bay of Bengal at a distance of 35 kilometres north of the entire city. It was constructed in 12th century, by King Narsimhadev 1 of Ganga Empire. From all over the country 1200 experts were chosen, who worked hard for 12 years and completed work. Modern science claims that this temple was built in 13 th century, but the Vedas give lots of evidences that this ancient temple is much older. Some reliable sources say that this temple was made by Lord Krishna's son Saamb. A Chinese Buddhist traveller hiue-stang also reffer in their book about Konark.
